What is your name and position with 1&1 Internet?

Please tell us the year established and the history of 1&1 Internet?
1&1 Internet was established in Germany in 1992 and is widely regarded as the dominant Web hosting player in the European market. We currently maintain more than a 40 percent market share in Germany. In 2000 we launched an operation in the UK, where we are ranked number two in the market, and in 2003 we opened our U.S. office. Since then, we have enjoyed tremendous growth signing more than several hundred thousand customers.
 
What do you offer your customers that are unique to your company?
We felt that our approach to Web hosting—serving as a one-stop-shop where users get everything they need for a productive Web site all in one place—was something that was lacking and would be welcomed in the U.S. It turns out we were right, with hundreds of thousands customers having joined 1&1 since then.
 
What is it that makes 1&1 Internet a competitive company in the Web Hosting market?
Our unique product line and competitive pricing make us a formidable competitor in the Web hosting market. We’re usually 25-50 percent less than Go Daddy or Yahoo.
 
What new features have 1&1 Internet added for its customers in the past year?
A great new feature is the 1&1 Dynamic Content Catalog. This gives users the ability to enhance the professional appearance of their Web sites by adding timely and relevant content from major news and information sources within a variety of subject categories, such as: news, finance, sports, entertainment, health, science, high tech, travel, games and weather. A travel agency, for example, can offer current weather and other information about popular destinations, or a sporting goods store can provide the latest scores.

Next, the 1&1 Photo Gallery is a fast and easy way to load, organize, edit and publish digital photographs to a fully customizable, secure personal Web site -- and then control who sees the photos and how.

Finally, we offer private domain registration in each of our domain registration packages and all shared hosting plans at no additional cost.
 
What would you say is 1&1 Internet #1 asset to its customer base?
1&1 Internet’s number one asset to its customer base would be the wide variety of products that we offer. We have great products at every price point from beginner/consumer to the professional with a small business. Also, we strive to offer tremendous value. When people sign up with us they can be assured they are getting the most available features and benefits for the lowest possible price.
 
Where do you see 1&1 Internet and the web hosting industry in three years?
The applications that we offer will grow in mobility. After making broadband available in almost every home the next step is to make it available on wireless devices literally anywhere you go. It will be the challenge to the webhosting industry to make our products compatible and usable in the mobile world.
 
How many customers do you currently have?
Worldwide, we currently have more than 5 million customers.
 
Do you own your own datacenter?
Yes we own our datacenter.
 
Where are they located?
It’s located in Karlsruhe, Germany In addition we have facilities in New York City and New Jersey
 
Do you have multiple backbone connections?
Our company backbone is connected to multiple carriers both in the US and Europe to offer our customers the most redundant connectivity possible. At present our connections to other carriers are in excess of 25GBit/s. This consists of multiple OC3, OC12 and OC48 connections.
 
Do you offer 24/7 support?
Yes we offer 24/7 support.
 
Do you have technicians present 24/7 or 9-5 M-F?
Our datacenters are staffed 24/7. Being present in quite a few timezones is a great asset in having the necessary expertise on hand in non-server related questions as well.
 
What is your average turn-around time on a support ticket?
We generally aim to have an answer to all of our customers questions within 24 hours or less.
