Alibaba Cloud to Launch Third atacenter in Indonesia in Early 2021
Jakarta, Indonesia – Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, is to launch its third datacenter in Indonesia early next year. The move is in response to the fast-growing demand from its Indonesian customers, many of whom are increasingly adopting the cloud and rapidly progressing their digital transformation strategies.
The expansion comes after Alibaba Cloud Indonesia built its first datacenter in 2018, with the second datacenter constructed in 2019. Upon completion of the third, Alibaba Cloud will have 64 availability zones across 21 regions worldwide.
In addition, the trusted cloud computing giant revealed its plan to build its first data scrubbing centre in the country, helping Indonesian customers – especially those in the finance and gaming sectors – to fend off cyberattacks.
“On this very occasion, I would like to extend my congratulations to Alibaba Cloud for the on-going development of the Availability Zone and the Data Scrubbing Centre in Indonesia, which is hoped to be launched by 2021,” said the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Johnny G. Plate.
Minister Johnny sees that this initiative will be one of the ways to accelerate the country’s digital transformation. “We hope that the data management process in the centre will be in line with the Indonesian Government principles in data management, such as lawfulness, fairness, and transparency,” he added.
The new datacenter would also enrich Alibaba Cloud’s local offerings, providing a comprehensive suite of cloud product and services from database, security, network to machine learning and data analytics. “We aim to keep expanding our leading products and innovative services to meet the diverse demand from our customers across different sectors, including e-commerce, finance, online media, education and gaming.” Chen added.
Meantime, the opening of the first data scrubbing centre in Indonesia, which is estimated to be completed in early 2021, will help detect, analyse and remove Tbps-level large volume of malicious traffic to defend distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, especially for finance and gaming businesses which are the common targets of cyberattacks.
“While cyberattacks such as DDoS have grown in intensity and sophistication, especially at a time when more businesses are moving their IT infrastructure onto cloud, Alibaba Cloud’s Anti-DDoS service – which is deployed on its globally distributed data scrubbing centres – can automatically mitigate attacks and reinforce the security of clients’ applications, significantly reducing the threat of malicious attacks.” Chen said.
Alibaba Cloud has been ranked as the number one public cloud service provider in APAC and number three globally, according to Gartner. Since it started serving the market in 2016, Alibaba Cloud Indonesia has introduced proven technologies from the Alibaba ecosystem to serve a wide array of Indonesian customers, including those in e-commerce, finance, logistics, gaming, education and media. In January 2020, Alibaba Cloud announced the launch of a ‘Partner Alliance Program’, an initiative with local ecosystem partners to promote cloud adoption and the use of data intelligence among businesses of all sizes and kinds. It has also partnered with universities, incubator and training institutions to support digital talent development in Indonesia.
