Orem, UT – Strong winds in Orem, Utah on March 17 caused power outages in the building housing the Fibernet offices and data center, as well as some of the surrounding establishments. Fibernet’s backup generators started powering the data center immediately, ensuring that customers’ websites did not experience any downtime.

Six of South Orem’s grids were affected by the wind, which caused power outages near the University Mall. The outage lasted for an hour and forty-five minutes.

Fibernet’s backup generators, which are tested once a week, kicked on immediately following the outage, providing an uninterrupted stream of power and preventing any lapse in service. The UPS is similarly tested each month. The data center experienced no power surges and the cooling systems were working at 100% capacity. Fibernet’s technical support phone lines were still available during the time of the outage.

“We have these systems in place for instances such as this,” said Fibernet CFO Lee Livingston. “With our backup generators, we can guarantee constant uptime even if the rest of our facilities lost power for a full week. We’re happy to announce that none of our customers were impacted by the power outage.”
