Future Facilities Discuss How to Achieve Data Center Efficiency

Web HostingSan Jose, CA – Future Facilities, a leading provider of data center infrastructure simulation software, today announced that its General Manager, Sherman Ikemoto, will speak at Advancements in Thermal Management 2011 on September 21st at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee.

At 10:15 a.m., Mr. Ikemoto will give a presentation titled Data Center Efficiency with Higher Ambient Temperatures and Optimized Airflow Management. The discussion will describe a new methodology that combines computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling with data gathered from thermal sensors embedded in servers. The new method allows data center managers to create a virtual test facility for IT load capacity planning – enabling better critical cooling and power decisions.

The embedded thermal sensors eliminate the need for external sensors, whose distance from critical electronic components creates an inaccurate thermal representation. The embedded sensors also provide power, airflow and CPU utilization data in real time to the CFD modeling and simulation software, which enables realistic IT load-capacity planning and optimization.

“I look forward to sharing this new methodology and showing how real-time monitoring of thermal conditions can be done without the need for external sensors,” said Sherman Ikemoto, General Manager at Future Facilities. “With this new approach, data center mangers will be able to get a more precise view of the cooling conditions in the data center, and more precisely plan for data center capacity while significantly reducing power and cooling costs.”
