Web Hosting – If you’ve already decided that you need Google Webmaster Tools  you might be a little confused about how to set it up and how to use it. You’re not alone. A lot of people who choose to have their own webpages and be their own webmasters are overwhelmed with the amount of information they need to know and use, especially if they aren’t professionals to begin with. If you’ve been looking for a simple, easy to understand walkthrough of Google Webmaster Tools, you’ve come to the right place. Keeping it simple now will create a better foundation that you can build upon later with the information Google Webmaster Tools offers.

You need to start with a Google account. If you have an account already, you’re off to a good start. If not, it only takes a second to set one up. Once that’s done, you can use it to sign into any Google product, including your Google Webmaster Tools dashboard. But first, you also need to sign up for Google Webmaster Tools itself once you have a Google account.

Now that the basics are out of the way, here’s how you go about setting up your account and using some of the tools available.

  • You need add your webpage that you want to use Google Webmaster Tools. You can add your website by clicking “Home” and following the prompt to add your website’s URL.

  • Next, you need to verify that you are indeed the owner of that website. Once you add your website under “Home”, click “Continue” and you’ll be taken to the page that prompts you to verify your website. There are several ways to do this and the page explains each one and how you do it. Choose the right way to verify for you. One way to verify is to download the verification file that Google provides in the first of four verification options, copy and paste it to your root file of your server, then click “Verify” on the Google Webmaster Tools verification page. If you need to verify later, you can do that too. But once you verify your website, you’ll start to see information automatically added to your account.

  • Next, you can edit the users allowed to access the Google Webmaster Tools page linked to your website. Users that have registered for Google accounts can only be registered Users. Simply add their e-mail addresses and you’re done under the “Users” area.

Another note, if you have a Google Analytics account for the same website you set up your Google Webmaster Tools, you can add your Analytics account to your Webmaster Tools. If you don’t have an Analytics account already, it’s very easy to set one up and is highly recommended that you do so for your website.

And of course, to start with a website you need to have a server that your website is hosted on. There are lots of ways to do this, but the best way is to sign up with a great web host that offers a great product at a great price. HostGator is one of our best unlimited web hosts, and always exceeds expectations. If you’ve been on the fence about who to host your website, look no further than HostGator. We highly recommend them!
