Sao Paulo, Brazil – Level 3 Communications activated a new power substation at its data center in Cotia, São Paulo, fortifying business continuity capabilities for customers in the region.

Key Facts:
The new substation is interconnected by two separate power lines to the Supplier substation of Jandira, redundant and integrated into Brazil’s national electricity system.

The new structure receives power through a high voltage (88/138kV) system, and power conversion for internal consumption will take place at Level 3’s Data Center facilities.
It has a 20 MW power capacity. This represents 25 percent of the aggregate power demand for the city of Cotia, which consumes an average of 78 MW a year, according to the Secretariat of Energy of São Paulo.
The new substation has enough capacity to support a four-fold growth of the current power demand providing the necessary flexibility to support growth for customers.

Key Quote:
Marcos Malfatti, Senior Vice President and Executive Director, Level 3 Brazil

“The new high-voltage line of the power substation at Level 3’s data center in Cotia provides improved options for customers. It removes the need for power protection hardware and provides better redundancy options, while at the same time decreasing generator gas emissions.”
