NYI is Home to the First OWASP Virtual Lab
NEW YORK – NYI, a colocation and managed services provider, dedicated to providing dependable technology infrastructure solutions, announces today that the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), a 501(c)(3) international not-for-profit charitable organization focused on improving the security of software, has chosen NYI to host its’ virtual lab. The specialized virtual testing area sponsored by NYI will allow for experimentation and contributions to multiple OWASP foundation projects. OWASP was founded to create visibility for software security, so that individuals and organizations worldwide could make informed decisions about true software security risks. The organization will further this mission by utilizing resources available in NYI’s Bridgewater, NJ data center.
OWASP has 43,000 community members and has been in operation since 2001. It was officially established as a nonprofit entity in the United States on April 21, 2004. Since its inception, OWASP has been a champion for enabling organizations around the world to imagine, cultivate, obtain and maintain trustworthy applications. The largest OWASP chapter is located in the New York and New Jersey area with over 2,500 community members.
NYI’s consistent presence within, and its support of the collaborative tech community is complementary to the active membership base of the NY/NJ OWASP chapter. After learning of NYI’s solid standing amongst its peers, OWASP-NYC Chapter began hosting events at NYI’s top tier facilities and experienced the exceptional above-and-beyond NYI customer support approach first-hand. It was clear that NYI could offer the perfectly suitable work room environment for application developers, software architects and information security authors to work on various OWASP projects. Through their distinctive alliance, NYI will be the regional virtual headquarters for the OWASP NY/NJ Chapter and ultimately serve the greater OWASP global membership.
“Open source work is important and a necessary component of the security market where unbiased, practical and cost-effective information can be shared without commercial influence,” states Tom Brennen NYC OWASP Chapter President and Founder of ProactiveRISK. “NYI understands this. They are a partner that actually respects and cares about our mission. Trust and transparency is at the core of our everyday efforts. We must be able to rely on those that we choose to work with as much as our community depends on the research we provide. Based upon the proven service-oriented reputation of NYI, I am confident in our choice to work with them.”
“OWASP is a true global pioneer community, serving as a catalyst for advancement in the safety and security of the world’s software,” comments Phillip Koblence, Chief Operating Officer of NYI. “NYI does not take lightly the responsibility of being entrusted with the first OWASP virtual lab. We welcome this sponsorship opportunity and are fully prepared to support OWASP in all initiatives associated with this innovative work site.”
NYI owns and operates data centers in New York and New Jersey. In addition to serving the Northeast, NYI also extends its data center, managed and cloud services across the coast, with facilities located in Seattle and Los Angeles. With 100% uptime, NYI facilities are SSAE-16, HIPAA and PCI compliant and offer 24x7x365 onsite support.
