Web Hosting – As reported by Networkworld, online social networkers are said to invite data marauders to evade their accounts by opting for convenience in accessing their online accounts verses being more vigilant. The report was based on a worldwide survey of more than 10,000 people. It was performed by the computer maintenance software maker IObit, and revealed that a third of the participants in the project (30%), routinely choose “keep me logged in” when accessing their social media accounts.

As quoted in the report Emmanuel Schalit,CEO of Dashlane, a password management app maker said “convenience is a primary motivator behind the behavior’’. When confronted with the choice between convenience and security, most people will choose convenience because they have not yet grasped the reality of the threat, he noted.

James Fenton CSO of OneID as per the article adds that “when you choose Keep Me Logged In, the website stores a “cookie” on your computer. Malware can harvest that cookie from you and send it to an attacker who can use it to impersonate you.”

This is the reason that many people use or should use Virtual Private Networks, such as proXPN as they encrypt all data transferred online, masking users public internet protocol (IP) addresses and blocking hackers or any intruders from observing their online activities, this ensures that the users information cannot be intercepted, especially crucial data such as passwords and credit card numbers.

About proXPN:
Founded in 2009, proXPN is a leading VPN provider. Unlike other services they offer free accounts. Unlike the SaaS standard practice of time-based free trials, a proXPN free VPN account lasts for life and is limited only by connection speed. proXPN Premium account users enjoy unlimited connection speeds as well as advanced features such as PPTP compatibility for mobile devices and VPN Guard™, proXPN’s method of cutting all data transfer should the VPN connection fail, ensuring all data is encrypted during transmission even if there’s a system error. proXPN’s firm stance on the importance of individual privacy and security online mirrors public sentiment expressed during debates over SOPA and PIPA.
