VooServers Migrates Bare Metal Enterprise Apps to the Cloud With OnApp

OnApp has announced that VooServers has launched a new range of public, private and hybrid cloud services to help enterprise customers migrate dedicated server workloads to the cloud, using the OnApp platform. With OnApp, VooServers can help enterprise clients improve resilience, and reduce server and storage costs, by migrating applications from traditional dedicated servers to fully-automated OnApp cloud servers, smart servers and bare metal servers. VooServers is also using OnApp’s federated Content Delivery Network (CDN) to extend its clients’ applications to more than 170 locations on demand.

VooServers chose OnApp for its ability to automate hosting for a wide range of cloud-based and dedicated server-based applications through one control panel. VooServers has already used OnApp to migrate applications for FTSE 100 and other clients, including Microsoft Exchange, CCTV systems, e-commerce and game servers, from traditional dedicated servers to a mix of OnApp cloud servers, smart servers and bare metal servers hosted at VooServers datacenters in the UK, U.S. and Europe.

“A lot of customers come to VooServers to migrate away from traditional dedicated servers, and get the benefits of faster provisioning, automatic scaling and redundancy from virtualization,” said Matt Parkinson, VooServers’ founder and technical director. “The real power of OnApp is that it handles fully virtual, fully dedicated and hybrid cloud, and dedicated servers in one platform, and includes its own storage system, as well as a global CDN. OnApp gives us the tools we need to design and deploy hosting services to suit each customer workload, and bring serious cost savings and improvements in application flexibility, resilience and performance to our clients.”

VooServers makes extensive use of OnApp Smart Servers, which combine the performance of a dedicated server with automated provisioning, scaling and failover of a cloud server. They enable VooServers’ clients to deploy resource-intensive applications with full redundancy, without the cost of running multiple redundant dedicated servers. VooServers also offers fully dedicated and fully virtual servers running on OnApp, so its clients can host resource-intensive applications with just the right mix of redundancy and scalability.

“One of the biggest opportunities for service providers is unifying cloud and dedicated infrastructure, and managing them together,” said OnApp’s Chief Commercial Officer, Kosten Metreweli. “Cloud might get most of the headlines, but 90% of all servers out there are still dedicated to a single workload. With OnApp you can manage dedicated, virtual-dedicated and fully virtual cloud resources under a single ‘pane of glass’, and VooServers is showing just how valuable that is for enterprises running apps like Exchange. They can keep the performance and security benefits of running in a single-tenant environment, get the automatic provisioning, scaling and failover of the cloud, and reduce hardware, storage, management and power costs at the same time.”

VooServers also makes extensive use of OnApp’s integrated storage system. With OnApp, VooServers can create high performance distributed storage using SSD drives in the servers hosting its clients’ applications. This removes the need for proprietary SAN arrays and direct attached storage for dedicated servers, greatly reducing cost while improving resilience and storage scalability.

OnApp’s federated CDN also enables VooServers to accelerate web performance and web application delivery for its clients. Using the OnApp CDN marketplace, VooServers can give its clients access to any of the 170+ locations in OnApp’s CDN federation, across 113 cities in 43 countries. VooServers plans to create three of its own CDN Points of Presence (PoPs) in Kent, UK, Frankfurt, Germany and New York in the U.S., and sell capacity at these locations to other federation members through the OnApp CDN marketplace.
